The idea for the Discovery Channel evolved from a simple question I was asking in 1982: “Isn’t there a way to make television better?”
After a lot of work by my start-up team and with the backing of my dedicated investors, we answered that question by creating an entire channel full of documentary entertainment that allowed viewers to vicariously explore their world – a world filled with wonders in science, technology, history, human adventure, and much more. One by one, viewers tuned in with shared enthusiasm and, today, Discovery Communications’ global reach far exceeds our early expectations.*
Over the past few years, I’ve been asking another simple question which I believe is shared by thoughtful and curious people across America and the world: “Isn’t there a way to make vacations more enriching and personally rewarding?”
The answer to this question has become clear to me. It is the creation of a new and different kind of company that is solely dedicated to serving individuals with a shared passion for learning, a thirst for adventure, and a desire to live surrounded by inspiration. This new company is called Experius.
At the very heart of Experius is the Experius Academy which promises to make the most of your vacation time by creating a unique destination for your leisure-time learning about topics ranging from science and history to self-improvement and the arts. It is also a destination in which you can personally interact with the world’s leading experts on the questions that have fueled your lifelong curiosity. Perhaps most importantly, the Experius Academy is hosted in a fun and recreation-rich environment.
Experius offers an entirely new approach to collecting the very best in life experiences.
We look forward to sharing Experius with you.
Sincerely yours,
John S. Hendricks, Founder
